One of the great (among many) things about the Bible is how it relates to us today. A collection of books that were written over 1500 years by 40 different writers with different backgrounds, places, and situations were able to write down information that still affects us in our time. The obvious answer to such a brilliant book is that transcends time is that God is the sole author of the Bible and He inspired men to write (2 Timothy 3:16). Because of this inspiration, we have all that we need that “pertains to life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3), and we will be drawn to certain passages that speak to our state of mind.
The young may love the stories about Joseph, David, Daniel, and Jesus. To read about these men when they were young and the faith they had in God is a favorite to them (Genesis 37; 1 Samuel 17; Daniel 1; Luke 2).
The middle aged can find comfort in the struggles of Job, Jeremiah, Peter, and Phoebe. To understand that in the prime of life we will face opposition and still overcome it is beautiful to read (Job 1, 2; Jeremiah 20; Luke 22; Romans 16).
The senior saints can look to great Bible passages that talk about the faith of Abraham, Moses, Mary, and John. The closer we get to heaven the clearer our understanding of these people of faith become (Genesis 22; Deuteronomy 34; Acts 1; Revelation 22).
No matter where we are in life, the Bible has a story or a single verse that gives us comfort and hope for the future.
