If you have ever gone clothes shopping with me you know that it takes me forever to pick the right item for me. I can go into a store and try on just about their entire inventory and walk out with nothing. It drives my husband crazy!!! When I finally find something I like, I keep it forever and sometimes buy two. When my favorite brown boots wore out, we searched and searched to find a pair just like them but I eventually had to settle on close enough.
When I found the perfect background for my tablet, I set it and still haven’t changed it. The same goes for my phone.
I drink from my favorite coffee cup every morning and if it’s not clean in the morning I wash it and then get some coffee.
I tell you all of this in hopes you won’t poke fun at me, but because I want you to understand my point. I don’t like changes. I like things just the way they are. I have my favorites and I just want to hold onto them for as long as I can.
Changes happen to all of us. I know I am not the only one. Sometimes, though, too much change all at once can be overwhelming, at least for me.
But that is why I keep holding onto this verse –
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Hebrews 13:8
And this one –
“For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.”Malachi 3:6
I can’t even remember how many times I have prayed, oftentimes through tears, thanking God for not changing, for being consistent, for always being there in an ever changing world.
I need that. I need that to hold onto. I need that to keep me focused on the unchanging things to come. God had promised to all those who faithfully follow Him until the very end a crown of life and a home in Heaven (2 Timothy 4:7-8; Revelation 2:10). That promise will not change!
In this ever so swiftly changing world hold onto Him, hold onto His Word, hold onto His promise because He says “for I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. (Isaiah 41:13)”.
