Sometimes I get discouraged in my writing. I get discouraged because I am not an expert it big words or proper grammar. I get discouraged because I am not a deep thought theologian. I get discouraged because I know women need to get to the meat of the Word (Hebrews 5:12-14), but the things I write about most would not be classified as meat. Some may call it fluff and I would too, but being completely honest I would classify it as peanut butter fudge.
My mom makes the best peanut butter fudge. She uses just the right amount of mashmallow fluff and peanut butter. It has fluff and meat (protien). While you shouldn’t make a meal out of it, you can certainly enjoy a piece from time to time. A piece of fluff with a little of the good stuff mixed in can be just the right amount of sweetness (Psalm 119:103,104) we need to see where we need to step up or remind us of a simple truth we might have forgotten.
Jesus taught as one having authority (Matthew 7:28,29). He taught all the time. He taught many different people in many different places using many different techniques. One of my favorite ways he taught was through parables; the way He used common everyday items to teach a spiritual lesson. Those are the ones that I remember the most. (Now please don’t get me wrong, I am not calling Jesus’s teachings fluff or peanut butter fudge.) When digging in the dirt I think about what kind of ground or sower I am (Matthew 13:1-23). When I put mustard on my hot dog I think about the mustard seed (Matthew 13:31,32). When I’m making bread I think about leaven (Matthew 13:33).
It’s these type of teachings that keep me focused on spiritual things. It’s in these type of lessons that I can find God in every aspect of my life. A constant diet of peanut butter fudge will not give you all the nutrients you need. We do need to feast on the meat of the Word. However, a little piece of peanut butter fudge every now and then satisfies a sweet tooth, can bring a smile to your face, and can keep you focused on the things above.
