Grace & Salt

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt – Colossians 4:6

What Are We Proud About?

Over the years, I’ve read many newspapers articles and blogs that are designed to stir up the emotions in people. Whether it is political or religious, there will always be a debate among the masses. Many times, the various opinions between individuals are just that, opinions. Both sides may be right or wrong, and that is what inspires lively debate. However, on certain issues a Higher Judge must be the final authority on all things, and that Authority is God. Through His Word, we are given a guideline to live our lives, morally and spiritually, which cannot be debated.

It might come as a surprise to some, but there are things, sins, that God does hate, “These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.” Proverbs 6:16-19. Obviously, this is not an exhaustive list. Any sin that is committed, God cannot be pleased with, whether it is lying, murder or any other sin mentioned by the inspired writers of the Bible, homosexuality included.

Paul stated in Romans 1:24-27, “Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.”

Here are a few points to bring out about this passage. First, the sin of homosexuality is not hereditary, as evidenced by the individuals choosing to commit these acts. Secondly, God has not, nor will He ever approve of these things. To describe it as vile, shameful and against nature seems to indicate this point. And third, the sin of homosexuality should not be treated any differently from any other sin, we are to love the soul and hate the sin.

Some might read these remarks as homophobic, even to go as far to say that I don’t love others. The fact of the matter is that I do love and care about the souls of all people. I want to see people leave lives of sin and serve a risen Savior. I can only stand on an issue where God has already taken a stand, no more and no less.

And in that, God will be well pleased.
