I love Christians! While I know that God commands me to love all people, Christians are extra special to me! Even Paul wrote about making sure we show special attention to them in Galatians 6:10, “As we therefore have the opportunity, let us do good to all men, but especially to the household of faith.” A Christian is a person who is a follower or disciple of Jesus Christ. This was the name that was promised to be given by God in Isaiah 62:2, “The Gentiles shall see Your righteousness and all kings Your glory, You shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord will name.” The fulfillment of this prophecy came in Acts 11:26 when the disciples, the church meeting in Antioch, first called Christians. But apart from loving Christians because they are followers of Christ, here are some more reasons I love Christians and why you should too!
Christians are known for their deep love towards one another. This love is not superficial, but deeply rooted in the love that God has shown us, as John explains in 1 John 4:19-21, ‘We love Him because He first loved us. If someone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.’ I love Christians because I know that they love me unconditionally, just as God loves me.
Christians are people who forgive quickly. In the world, grudges are held for long periods of time, even to the point most people do not remember what they are mad about. On the other hand, Christians seek reconciliation and forgive each other, as Jesus taught in Matthew 5:22- 24: “But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire. Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First, be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” I love Christians because they don’t hold grudges and will forgive, just as God forgives me.
Christians are a united force, working together towards a common goal. Unlike the typical “group project” scenario where individuals often work against each other, Christians have only one agenda-to glorify God. All the work we do together is for His glory, as Jesus illustrated in Matthew 5:16, ‘Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.’ I love Christians because we work harmoniously to bring glory to God, just as Jesus glorified the Father.
Christians are people who worship together. Sometimes, we will engage in an activity with someone who is not a Christian, maybe at a sporting event or a school function. Still, the closeness that I have with other Christians in worship is unlike those other times because of Who we are worshipping together, the God of the universe that Jesus describes in John 4:24, “God is Spirit, and those that worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.” I love Christians who come together and sing, pray, remember, and worship the Father and the Lamb that we love because He is worthy of that worship.
I love Christians because I am a Christian, washed and saved by the blood of Christ, and there is no other group of people I’d rather be associated with!
