Every day, Kristina gets an email for a fact of the day. I look forward to her telling me the new facts of the day. Some days, I know the fact, but other days are a complete surprise, like how Abraham Lincoln created the Secret Service…on the day he was shot! The Bible contains facts that you may not have known:
1. Paul’s nephew plays a small but critical role in saving his life. When Paul was imprisoned, his nephew overheard a plot to kill him and warned the Roman authorities, who then protected Paul (Acts 23:16-22).
2. Many people assume all of Jesus’ miracles occurred in Israel, but He performed miracles in Gentile regions as well. One example is His healing of the demon-possessed man in the region of the Gadarenes, a predominantly Gentile area (Mark 5:1-20).
3. The first person mentioned in the Bible as a musician is Jubal, who is described as the father of all who play the harp and flute (Genesis 4:21).
4. In 2 Samuel 21:20, one of the descendants of the giants had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, totaling 24 digits. This unusual feature makes him stand out among other biblical characters.
5. God commanded the prophet Isaiah to walk naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and warning to Egypt and Cush (Isaiah 20:2-4). This symbolic act was meant to show the humiliation that would come upon these nations.
6. In Acts 12, Herod imprisoned Peter, but an angel appeared in his cell to free him. What’s odd is that Peter, who was sleeping between two guards, was so deeply asleep that the angel had to strike him on the side to wake him up (Acts 12:7). Peter thought he was dreaming until he was completely out of the prison.
With so many strange and wonderful facts in the Bible, how can we not be impressed with the stories and lessons they teach?
