Grace & Salt

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt – Colossians 4:6

Christian Friends

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” — Proverbs 27:17

God designed us for relationships. From the beginning, He said it was not good for us to be alone (Genesis 2:18). One of the most profound ways God works in our lives is through our relationships with others, especially with other believers. Christian friendships are not just casual relationships, but intentional, God-ordained partnerships meant to draw us closer to Christ.

The Bible shows us that Christian friends provide support and encouragement. When we’re facing hardships, a faithful friend helps bear our burdens (Galatians 6:2). Through prayer, wise counsel, and a listening ear, Christian friends remind us of God’s promises and help us keep our faith strong when we feel weak. They walk beside us, comforting and encouraging us, reminding us of God’s presence.

Christian friendships also provide a source of accountability. In today’s world, it’s easy to stray from biblical truths and follow worldly values. A true friend in Christ will lovingly guide us back when we start to drift. They remind us of who we are in Christ and call us to live in a way that honors Him. Proverbs 27:6 says, “Wounds from a friend can be trusted.” A Christian friend cares enough to offer correction, not to condemn but to help us grow in holiness.

Another essential aspect of Christian friendship is spiritual growth. Friends who share our faith inspire us to grow. They challenge us to read Scripture, pray, serve, and live out our faith with courage. By sharing their own journey with God—their struggles and victories—they inspire us to deepen our walk with Christ. We “sharpen” one another, as Proverbs 27:17 says, making each other more Christ-like through our interactions.

We’re called not only to be friends but to be a spiritual family. Romans 12:10 instructs us to “be devoted to one another in love.” Christian friendships are built on a foundation of sacrificial love, like the love Jesus showed us. This love encourages, strengthens, and points us to the Savior.

Christian friends are a blessing; take time to thank God for them. If you’re seeking such friendships, pray that God will bring people into your life who can walk with you in faith. Christian friends are a true gift, encouraging us, challenging us, and helping us become more like Christ every day.
