Grace & Salt

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt – Colossians 4:6

A Heart of Gratitude

“In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Gratitude is more than a polite “thank you”; it is a profound recognition of God’s goodness, even in the smallest details of our lives. When we cultivate a heart of gratitude, we shift our focus from what we lack to the abundance of blessings God has already provided.

The Apostle Paul, who faced shipwrecks, imprisonment, and countless hardships, still urged believers to give thanks in all circumstances. Graciousness stems not from our circumstances but from our confidence in God’s unchanging nature. He is faithful, always working for our good (Romans 8:28).

Gratitude transforms our perspective. It allows us to see trials not as insurmountable obstacles but as opportunities for growth and trust in God. When we thank God for His provision, even amid struggles, we acknowledge His sovereignty and trust His plans. Consider the story of the ten lepers in Luke 17:11-19. Only one returned to thank Jesus after being healed, and he was a Samaritan. His gratitude not only honored Jesus but also deepened his relationship with Him.

How often do we receive blessings but fail to return in gratitude? Daily mercies like breath, relationships, and even the beauty of creation are gifts from a loving Father. When we pause to count these blessings, our hearts become full of thanksgiving, and our spirits find joy and peace.

Practicing gratitude is a discipline. Start by writing down three things you’re thankful for each day. Meditate on passages like Psalm 100:4, which says, “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”

As we express gratitude, we draw closer to God and reflect His light to others. Gratitude is contagious—it inspires worship, builds faith, and fosters contentment. Choose gratitude today and watch how it transforms your heart and your walk with Christ.
