Grace & Salt

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt – Colossians 4:6

The Narrow Path

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” – Matthew 7:13-14

Jesus makes it clear that there are only two paths in life: one that leads to destruction and one that leads to life. The wide path is easy and popular, while the narrow path is challenging and requires commitment. Yet, it is the only path that leads to eternal life with Christ.

So, how do we stay on the narrow path?

Obedience is essential for staying on the narrow path. Every day, we face choices, some that align with God’s will and others that pull us away. Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15). This means choosing honesty when lying seems easier, purity when temptation calls, and faith when doubt creeps in. Walking in obedience, even when it is difficult, keeps us on course.

We cannot walk the narrow path on our strength. Jesus said, “Abide in Me, and I in you” (John 15:4). Staying close to Him through prayer, worship, and studying Scripture strengthens us for the journey. Just as a branch must remain connected to the vine to bear fruit, we must stay connected to Jesus to walk faithfully.

The narrow path is not crowded. Sometimes, following Jesus may feel lonely; friends may not understand, and the world may mock our faith. But we are not truly alone. Jesus said, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). When we stand for righteousness, God strengthens and surrounds us with fellow Christians to encourage us.

The narrow path is difficult, but it leads to life. Paul reminds us, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (2 Corinthians 4:17). When trials come, we must remember that eternity with Christ is worth every sacrifice we make now.

The world offers an easy road, but its end is destruction. Jesus calls us to a harder path, but it is the only one that leads to life. Stay obedient, close to Him, stand firm, and keep your eyes on eternity. The journey may be difficult, but the destination is worth it.
