Grace & Salt

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt – Colossians 4:6

The Great Physician

Throughout Scripture, Jesus is revealed as the Great Physician, healing physical ailments and restoring souls. Miraculous healings marked his ministry, yet His greatest work was healing sin. Many sought Him for relief from sickness, but He came to offer something deeper: eternal restoration.

In Mark 2:17, Jesus declares, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” This statement highlights that Christ’s primary mission was to heal the sickness of sin. Just as a doctor treats a disease to restore health, Jesus treats the disease of sin to restore our relationship with God.

Throughout His earthly ministry, Jesus healed countless people. He gave sight to the blind (Mark 10:52), made the lame walk (John 5:8-9), and even raised the dead (John 11:43-44). His power over sickness demonstrated His divine authority, but every physical healing pointed to a greater spiritual reality: the need for salvation.

One striking example is the healing of the paralytic in Mark 2:1-12. Instead of immediately healing the man’s physical condition, Jesus first forgave his sins, saying, “Son, your sins are forgiven you” (Mark 2:5). This showed that while the man’s paralysis was a concern, his greatest need was spiritual healing. Only after addressing his sin did Jesus say, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house” (Mark 2:11).

We all need Jesus, the Great Physician. Some may struggle with physical ailments, but all are afflicted by sin. Many seek temporary relief, success, comfort, or worldly pleasures. Still, these are like painkillers that mask symptoms without curing the disease. Only Jesus can heal the root problem of sin.

When we come to Him in faith, acknowledging our brokenness, He applies His healing touch. Psalm 147:3 reminds us, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” His healing is not always immediate or in the way we expect, but it is always perfect.

As Christians, we must trust Jesus with our physical, emotional, or spiritual wounds. We should also share His healing message with others, pointing them to the only One who can restore their souls.

Are you in need of His healing today? Bring your burdens to the Great Physician, and let Him make you whole.
