The year 2025 is halfway over. July 2nd marked the exact halfway point, with 182 days passed and 182 remaining. This also means that, as of July 3rd, 2025, we are officially closer to the year 2050 than we are to the year 2000. Time moves steadily forward, never pausing or turning back. Each day is a gift, yet it slips away like water through our fingers. The Bible reminds us often about the brevity of life and the importance of how we use the time given to us.
In Psalm 90:12, Moses prays, “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” This verse speaks profoundly about the need to recognize the brevity of our time here on earth. When we genuinely understand the limited nature of our days, we begin to live more intentionally. Wisdom grows as we value every moment, making choices that honor God and reflect His purposes.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” Life unfolds in different seasons. There are times of joy and times of sorrow, moments of growth and periods of rest. None last forever, and all serve a purpose in God’s perfect plan. Accepting this truth helps us face change with faith rather than fear.
The New Testament reminds us to be careful stewards of time as well. Ephesians 5:15-16 encourages believers, “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Redeeming the time means making the most of every opportunity to live rightly, love others, and serve God. We are called to live with urgency, not wasting our moments on things that do not matter in eternity.
Time’s passing also calls us to remember that our hope is not in this world but in the eternal. James 4:14 states, “Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” This reminder should humble us and lead us to place our trust fully in God’s promises, knowing that life on earth is fleeting but eternal life with Him lasts forever.
In the face of time’s relentless flow, we find comfort in God’s unchanging nature. Psalm 102:25-27 speaks of God’s eternal existence, “Of old You laid the foundation of the earth… But You are the same, and Your years will have no end.” While everything around us changes, God remains constant.
Let us live each day fully aware that time is a precious gift. Let us seek God’s wisdom, embrace life’s seasons, and use every moment to reflect His love and grace. The clock is ticking, but in God’s hands, our time has eternal meaning.
