Grace & Salt

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt – Colossians 4:6

The Master Builder

Psalm 127:1 says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” That verse reminds us of something we often forget, God is the true builder. We may think our effort, our planning, or our determination will hold things together, but without His hands on the work, even our best efforts collapse in time.

When you look at a home, it’s more than walls and a roof. It’s where love is tested and where faith is taught. God designed the family in the beginning, and He still knows how to make it strong. A house built on career ambition, personal comfort, or shifting culture will eventually show cracks. But when a family is built on the wisdom of God’s Word, it has a foundation that can withstand storms. Parents who invite God to guide their homes are laying down something their children can stand on long after they are gone.

God also builds His church. Jesus said in Matthew 16:18, “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.” The church was not left to our imagination or invention. It belongs to Christ. He is the cornerstone, and every believer is a living stone placed with purpose. Sometimes we forget that the church is more than a gathering place, it is the house of God, carefully constructed for His glory. Each person who follows Christ has a role in that house, no matter how small it may seem. If you have ever seen a stone cathedral, you know every block matters. Remove one, and the whole structure feels incomplete. That is how God views His people in His church.

Most of all, God is the builder of our salvation. Before the world began, He had a plan in Christ. The cross was not an afterthought. It was the foundation of redemption. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3:11, “No one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” Salvation built on human effort will crumble, but salvation built on Christ will stand forever. He is not only the author but also the finisher of our faith.

If life feels unstable, maybe it’s because we’ve been working off our own blueprints. A builder who ignores the architect’s design ends up with crooked walls and a shaky frame. The same is true spiritually. God is the Master Builder. When we surrender our homes, our place in His church, and our eternal hope into His hands, we find strength that does not fail.
