If you live long enough, you’ll notice something, life moves in seasons. The air changes, the days change, and so do we. Just as God designed the earth to go through spring, summer, fall, and winter, He allows our lives to go through changes as well. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” There are seasons of growth, seasons of waiting, seasons of blessing, and seasons of struggle. None of them last forever. And just like the weather, we can’t control them, but we can trust the One who does. God is steady even when life isn’t.
Spring is a time of new beginnings. The cold ground breaks open, and life starts to grow again. Spiritually, that’s what happens when God renews our hearts. After a season of failure, He gives us another chance. Hosea 6:3 says, “He will come to us like the rain, like the latter and former rain to the earth.” When God sends His rain, dead places start to live again. Maybe you’re in that season, coming back to God, feeling hope again, beginning to grow. Don’t take that lightly. New beginnings are a gift from His grace.
Summer is the season of work and growth. The days are long and productive. In life, that’s when things seem to be moving forward. Your prayers are being answered, your faith is strong, and God is using you to help others. But even in the warmth of summer, there’s a warning: don’t get lazy. Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Keep planting good seed. Stay faithful in your work for God. The harvest doesn’t come overnight.
Then comes autumn, the season of change. The leaves start to fall. Things you thought would last begin to fade. Maybe that’s where you are right now. Relationships shift, opportunities close, and you start to feel loss. But autumn isn’t punishment; it’s preparation. John 15:2 says, “Every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” God cuts away things not to hurt us, but to make room for more growth. Don’t fear the pruning, it means He’s still working in you.
And then there’s winter, the hardest season of all. The trees are bare, the days are short, and the world looks lifeless. Spiritually, winter is when God seems quiet. You pray, and it feels like nothing happens. You try to worship, and it feels cold. But even in winter, God is still God. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Sometimes, He uses winter to teach us to trust Him without feelings, to walk by faith when sight isn’t enough. Underneath that frozen ground, He’s preparing something new for the next season.
The truth is, every season serves a purpose. God is present in all of them, whether you’re starting fresh, working hard, letting go, or just hanging on. You may not understand why things are changing, but God does. Genesis 8:22 says, “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.” Seasons will always come and go, but the Lord never changes. He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever. So instead of fighting your season, trust God in it. He knows what He’s doing, and in His perfect time, He’ll bring about something new.
