Grace & Salt

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt – Colossians 4:6

Reflecting At The Beginning Of The Year

As the clock strikes midnight and a new year begins, we are reminded of the gift of fresh starts and new opportunities. The beginning of a new year is a natural time to reflect, recalibrate, and renew our focus on God’s purposes for our lives. Scripture encourages us to look ahead with faith, grounded in the promises of God’s Word.

Philippians 3:13-14 is a powerful reminder of forward momentum: “Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Paul’s words teach us to release the weight of past failures and successes. Instead of dwelling on the past, we are called to press on with our eyes fixed on Christ, who is the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).

Isaiah 43:18-19 beautifully captures the heart of hope and renewal: “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” This promise reminds us that God is always at work, bringing new beginnings into our lives, even when we cannot fully see His plans unfolding.

As we step into this new season, Proverbs 16:3 offers practical wisdom: “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” This verse challenges us to align our aspirations with God’s will, surrendering our ambitions to Him in prayer. When we place our trust in God, we allow Him to guide our steps and fulfill His purposes in and through us.

Navigating the uncertainties of the year ahead also requires trust. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Trusting God is a daily decision—a posture of surrender and reliance on His wisdom rather than our own.

A practical way to apply these truths is to set spiritual goals alongside personal and professional ones. Resolve to read Scripture daily, deepen your prayer life, and actively engage in serving your church and community. Hebrews 10:24-25 encourages us not to neglect meeting together as believers, but to “stir up one another to love and good works.”

As we step into this new chapter, Lamentations 3:22-23 reassures us of God’s faithfulness: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

This year, let us embrace God’s mercies, walk by faith, and commit to glorifying Him in all we do. With Him as our guide, the future is filled with hope.
